Andy is representing ICOMIA at the 7th session of the Ship Design and Construction Sub-Committee at the IMO headquarters in London. Key issues up for discussion include the GUIDELINES FOR SAFETY MEASURES FOR PLEASURE YACHTS OF 300 GROSS TONNAGE AND ABOVE NOT ENGAGED IN TRADE OPERATING IN POLAR WATERS.
Other issues to be discussed at the session include:
- Proposals to create a new SOLAS (Chapter II-1/25-1) requirement for the fitting of water level detectors in all new cargo ships with more than one hold and which are not bulk carriers.
- Further amendments to SOLAS chapter II-1 on subdivision and damage stability.
- Continuing work on the development of a new mandatory Code for ships which carry industrial personnel.
- Continuing work on the criteria for assessing ships for dynamic intact stability. Initially non-mandatory, the requirements will be released as a circular for industry to test them for real-world application.
Andy will be following all topics with a keen eye for issues affecting the yachting industry and will be reporting back to ICOMIA and MYBA.
